Converting a sythetic sleeping bag into a down UQ

I have a plan-- I have an old NorthFace Cat's Meow that's about had it in terms of loft. I also have a Down King sized bed spread that has never been used. I have a sewing machine.

I was thinking about taking the seam out of one side, gutting the fill out, and then stuffing the down into the sleeping bag. Does anyone see any problems with this plan?

Has anyone ever done this before?
    Thanks for your time.

without some baffles your down will settle to the lowest point. You would need to add some internal baffles to keep that down where you want it.

+1 on the "your gonna need baffles" to keep the down from migrating and making one big clump out of itself.

You also need to consider the quality of the down you will be using, and the "down proofness" of the material. The lower the FP, the more feathers, and clusters are going to find their way out of your quilt. You are going to loose some down no matter what, but you'll want to minimize that as much as possible.

Synth and down require two completely different construction processes. I would advise against putting your plan into action. I think you will be very disapointed in the outcome.

Squeezing apples will rarely produce a glass of orange juice.

I sewed a bunch of channels (ie baffles) into the bag (simple to do) and stuffed them with the 900 down I had in the bed quilt. Looks great and stays fluffy. I've been sleeping in it the last 2 days-- it's in the low 40's at night here-- and I'm happy to report that I've been nice and warm. Thanks Lost Biker and Damnfast for the tip!
    You two saved me $200!!!!
-- PGI-- I don't think one can ever squeeze apples to get orange juice, but one should be able to adapt the squeezer for multipurpose use.
