Been using 7/64 whoopies for about 6 months, I weigh 260 and they do not budge. I have also had my dog in the hammock which was an additional 80 pounds and we sat in the hammock for about an hour and they were rock solid. I think your hammock seams would fail before the amsteel. And in the words of Shug " make sure to milk ur berry" that will keep them from slipping

Real life experience and DURABILITY test in my own home with my exceptionally heavy body have yeilded that the 7/64ths can endure numerous nights (and days) of suspending me.

I'm 300+ lbs and have used the same 7/64 dynaglide whoopie for two+ years. No failure. During any hammock builds and testing, I'll switch out the same whoopie to the new hammock and it performs well. The whoopie has seen lots of hammocks. Very little sign of degradation in the line and its ability to adjust and hold. Without actually counting the days, I'd say a minimum of easily 300 nights, same whoopie.

I give it two thumbs for a good line. 1/8 is good too.

Thanks, again for all of the replies.

Mountnman... I'm half-way afraid to ask, but how do you "milk ur berry"... and I'm hoping that's the wrong word at the end of that quote... lol

Uh, That's bury. Make sure that the outer part of where your adjustable loop is buried is fully stretched to maximize the grip, minimize the slip!

I'll second what the Sarge says. The 7/64" Amsteel will take higher loads but I like a safety factor since we are dealing with static and dynamic loads in a hammock suspension.

Samson rates properly made whoopie slings at 80% of the rope's strength. (They used to rate it at 60%).

I amended my post to include the usual safety margin for human loads: 10-15 to 1.
Pick a midpoint of 12.5 and divide 1600 by it:
    128lb
