Really nice looking sock! I like your PVC now idea.
Obviously it's working well based on your temperature measurements. Well done!

I have a question about the waterproof fabric strip. Did you use 18" on each side for a total of 36" width, or is the total width 18"?

Yes, it was 36" total or 18 (folded in half) for each side. Sorry for the confusion.

I believe it will work temp wise to the teens. I'm planning on putting on a regular piece of loose weave cotton fabric for a cap - that will slow down the heat loss and hopefully also control any condensation that may occur. At one point last night, when I was using my netbook, it got rather stuffy - I believe it was caused by the netbook heating up the interior. There was a gap of about 2 inches at the top of the sock.

Finished the suspension. All that's left is the ridge cap - tomorrow. The last pic is me standing in between the hammock and sock. Lots of room, even for changing clothes. Can store my pack, boots and stuff within reach and out of the weather. I'm rather pleased. Can't wait for some snow.

    Final pictures - so enjoy!

    DIY sock

You do beautiful work, thanks for the pictures and report.

Is there any considerable condensation at that low temperature? With the open top, does it vent it all out? I have made a sock about like yours, but, have not used it yet. It's PU ripstop.

Please let us know how it works out in the future.

The waterproof "floor" looks to be really useful.

+1 on the floor! That looks like it will work nicely.

How much bigger is this sock than our last sock?

    Sincerely,
    Dave-o

Great looking work and innovation. +1 on the PVC pipe with string for making curves--that's a neat approach. Thanks for sharing it.
