    Tarp Spreader Bars

Kudos to the member who originally thought this up (sorry can't remember your user name). I had a piece of 10ft 1/2" cpvc pipe from another project and wanted to try this cheap trick. I cut the pipe in half and using mini biners attached them to the panel pull outs on my Big Mamajamba tarp. It really works well!

It makes a huge space inside the tarp and no sewing at all.

I set this up this morning - took all of 20 minutes and most of that was fighting the heavy winds here. It's a true "hook-up in a minute" set-up.

I'm happy with another fast and cheap (the cpvc only cost $2.50) DIY project.

Edit - found the post I was referring to here : http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...d.php?t=61426A

    bowl-maker started the cpvc thread.

That would be Paul Gibson (pgibson) at Arrowhead Equipment.

I have been messing with a packable version lately using tent poles. Boy does it make a tarp bigger.. Good job on the cpvc setup.

Excellent, I love it!! I've always liked this idea. I have a pole mod in my tarp, but I think this looks so much easier, and really simple....and inexpensive. I'll have to give this a go on my son's tarp, since we won't be able to hang under one tarp in the winter and still be able to close off the doors (or at least I haven't figured out how).

Yes, I was surprised at how much more room. Gotta wait for the high winds to die down - The tarp acts like a sail now.

Thank-you! I wanted a cheap, easy way to get more room. I've been wanting to do this for a few weeks now. I love the simplicity.

Seems to work well for the added gear needed... I guess if you lack tie out locations (nearby trees, etc.) it is a great thing to have. May have to make a set to keep handy in case I need them...

I like how foolproof it is. You can get it anywhere. The cpvc weighs very little and I don't mind them sticking out of my pack. They also fit the top tube on my bike perfectly. May be ugly, but it's more robust than carbon fiber.
