Now this does not make sense to me

Last couple of nights temps were predicted to be in the mid 20's. I decided to try a backyard hang primarily to try out a top insulation configuration that would be multi-use. I combined a JRB Stealth TQ (45º) over a GoLite Ultra 20 (35-40º for me) with the idea that the Stealth would double as my camp jacket. I had a WB Winter Yeti UQ and a GG Sleep Lite pad in the footbox of the GoLite to insulate my feet. I wore a light weight set of Merino long johns, down socks, a merino Buff and a Black Rock down beanie. Now I have spent many nights on the trail with a 3-season Yeti and was fine down to the low 30's. Well this time at around 1:30 in the morning (with the temp only 31.8º) I woke with the dreaded CBS, actually the cold back syndrome. I got up and sandwiched a summer LeighLo's UQ between the Yeti and the hammock and it solved the problem. But now that has just added weight that I was trying to eliminate. I'm no Noob but I can not understand what has happened.

It may have had a sag! Get someone to lay in it while you look for sags.

You can also try bringing some Reflectives .It is light and cheap cold spot solution!

More than likely Yeti sagged. They are short and heavier and the shock cord tends to loosen overnight.
I added "lifters" to mine and I lay to sleep with a worry-free mind and fear no CBS.

Good tip Shug. I've been having CBS with my winter yeti on my lite owl and had been trying all sorts of things. I had thought about the extra side lifters but was hesitating . Now i see it solved your problem i'll give it a try. Today will be some sewing. BTW , where did you get your little hook.??

Just had them laying around. Harvested from an old tent fly I think.

Thanks Shug. I used to do that with my JRB NoSniveler. I don't know why I did not think of it again. I'll try it out next cold night.

Could this be a problem related to a perimeter style suspension? Those are convenient suspensions in several ways, but I'm not sure I have ever seen that problem reported with a JRB style "Connect on the end" suspension, Or a Peapod, or a HHSS.

By "problem" I mean some sort of gap developing during the night, leading to CBS. It also seems to me that it is easier for my yeti to sort of "bunch up". If you know what I mean by those words? Just picture if somebody came along while you were laying in your under quilt and pushed the neck end closer to the foot end. It would be possible for the quilt to travel in that direction with a yeti style suspension. And if it did that would result in a bit of a gap underneath.

Just thinking out loud. It's just something that we might need to keep an eye out for with that suspension. If it is even possible.

When that happened to me it was because I actually slid down my hammock a little due to my hammock being level as opposed to foot end higher the way I like it. This opened up a small gap at the head end in which cool air could flow. Every set up is a little different and adding something like Shug suggests ensure more consitency from set up to set up.

Here is a pic of my AHE New River from this past summer. I got some CBS the first night for some reason, and figured it was gapping. Rather than fiddle with it, I put two "Side Lifters in place with Orange Paracord. I tied it on one side, tossed it up and over the ridgeline, then tied it on the other side. You can see the one on the left clearly, and barely see the one on the right through the bug netting. I *always* do this now! I don't have to worry so much about getting the perfect set-up anymore. This works!

PS: If you look hard, you can see my Bow Drill Set under the hammock on the ground! Fire by rubbing sticks together ...who'd a thunk it? LOL!
