So don't you know what the movie makers know...the sound track is the deal. I camp out, but I do NOT go to scary movies...

I'm not either... but I make knives. Some are big and scary.

Hey Guys, I have been thinking about doing some stealth camping lately. You know try out new gear close to home before taking it out miles from home. For you guys in and around Ottawa, are you in the West end or East end? I'm thinking Larose Forest near Limoge. Anyone been out that way?

Old thread but I just recently starting thinking about the subject more.

Very intriguing as I look around while driving. I even checked out some property thru the county assessors office. Looks like some good opportunies on the riverbanks via kayak. I found a lots of heavily wooded areas along the river coded "exempt property owned by municipality" and "vacant land".

I understand this doesn't give me any right to camp there, but if I'm going to stealth camp in a place like this, it's nice to know there's not an actual homeowner walking it with with a shotgun! Plus much less chance of someone walking around. But you never know for sure.

I don't know, but come spring I may have my wife drop me off and do a quick overnighter!

There are a lot of nice parks in Rochester, near where my company headquarters are. I've stealth camped a couple of times, and followed some of the sage advice here, getting off of the trail and onto the side of a hill away from the line of sight. I have to say, though, that if you're a light sleeper the noise of occasionally passing cars is a bear.

I have done it for many years, if you are female, you really need to be careful. I have had some really concerning things happen over the years. I am always very careful not to draw attention to myself when in public places, I am also careful not to get in places that morph after dark into a clandestine meeting place.

There are some very dangerous humans occupying public places.

I sort of pass out when I get in my hammock, so I am not really sensitive to noise, except barking dogs, radios or kids.

Noise is an issue. I have a secret gear test area, The Stick Fort, which I use frequently. Problem is there is a hospital about .5 mi away as the crow flies, and, of course, that is on a main road. There are several other main roads within 1 mile radius. The hospital has a helipad between The Stick Fort and the hospital building, so when the MedEvac comes, it is seriously loud. AND, a pack of coyotes live in the land between the road and my secret base. Whenever an ambulance siren comes in or out, those coyotes start to howling and yapping...
The road to success is always under construction.
