Dang I miss the Kanc.
Try the Mount Osceola hike. Not one of the biguns, but a nice hike. If you shuttle two vehicles you can park on the Kanc, then go round the moutain and park the other at the trail head. Climb to the top is a good 5 hour hike and you should be able to camp on triail on the other side---unless the rules have changed in the last 25 years------

It really was a beautiful place to be. Whether hanging, tenting, or staying in the shelter this place is somewhere anyone in the NH area should get to. I was surprised to have the entire area to ourselves considering the weather was still agreeable. Some comments on gear I had on the trip: I love the combination of 0 degree Incubator and 30 degree North Face Golden Kazoo sleeping bag as a top quilt. More than any sleeping bag I've been in, the Kazoo works perfectly as a TQ and is very warm and light weight. I am still trying to perfect setting up my Warbonnet Blackbird so that I get a great Night sleep. The last few times I feel pressure on my calf on the side away from the foot box which makes it rather uncomfortable. It is frustrating because I have, at other times, not had this problem of calf pressure. Another piece of gear that was fun to use was the Vital Stove by Solhuma. It is a twig stove that has a battery operated fan that really get the fire blowing hot. It really boils water quickly and does not require much fuel at all. In this area, it is very easy to find organic debris on the ground to use in the stove. I burned anything from wood chips to pine cones and this thing worked great. I think it is heavy unfortunately but if you plan on boiling lots of water for a few people it is worth the trade off. It runs off of 2 AA batteries and the manufacturer claims it will run for 40 hours on those batteries. This got long winded but all in all it was a great trip. I couldn't believe the amazing stars that were visible there too. I can't wait to go back.

My favorite hiking is in New Hampshire which I got to enjoy last month.
