    tarp suspension length

Being new to the hammock scene, I have lots of questions. But I will start out small. Right now I am in the process of turning my tarp once used as a tent into a rain cover. I have attached PMI cords 3 m in length to the corners, the 'head' and the 'tail'. But looking at it now, it seems like the cords are too long for it to be of any use. Whats the optimal length for tarp cords? Should I reduce the length?

Hey there.....no best length really....in my opinion. Depends on your style. But 4' to 6' on corners is popular. Longer or extra line if you like porch-mode on your tarp.
I did some tarp videos....may give you some insight.
Lots of even newer techniques since I shot these.

Just as Shug said, there is no best length. I have 8ft lines on my corners and 15 ft RLs at the ends, and that setup works well for me. Experiment and find what works good for you. I think it is eaier to start with a longer line and shorten it until you are happy then start short and figure out a way to make things longer. YMMV.

Like Shug said....lots of varying lengths out there. I like my tarp in porch mode most of the time so my corner lines are about 12'. This will let me tie off to tree branches to open up the front of the tarp or use my poles for support. All of my center ties are around 5' to act as anchor lines.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
