I always put my pack cover on my pack and set it right under my hammock. I put a grocery back over my boots and put them right next to the pack. Never been an issue for me even in heavy rain.

Put my bag into the pack liner and lay that down with the rest of my gear of my 'Floormat'!

I put mine in a gear hammock suspended above my hammock underneath my tarp.

Here is a video that shows it in action (about halfway through - you can see the orange gear hammock in the video still):

Here is first of a series of videos showing how I made it:

In nice weather, I hang my pack on line suspended between two nearby trees that I also use for hanging other stuff. In wet weather, I do as already mentioned and put my pack in my pack cover and leave it under my hammock.

Various options according to weather conditions and how long I'm staying put...

    1. Boots upside down on two sticks near the hammock, but angled away so I don't spear myself in the night.
    2. A net hammock, hung above mine, as a gear loft.
    3. Pack and all gear inside a large drybag under the hammock.

I don't use a welcome mat, so pack / put away all my gear when I've finished with it.

Picture below shows the gear loft in use on a Scout camp.
