What would you call this type of snowshoe?

Not a lot of toe up sweep on those, probably about 12x40-45 size, Alaskan, would be one term, used on open country trails usually.
I had a pair that are about 12 X 60 used for lake and open area travel, tough in the woods though.

I use different shoes for different conditions and areas, hills can be pretty tough with traditionals, but they sure do work well in more fluffy deey snow

I'll have my magnesium mil surplus snow shoes as well... more upswept toes, but still no good on hills... but it looks like there are not a lot of hills where we are going.

Hey guys, just went grouse hunting up on the SHT on section 13 (Finland) and there be some snow around. Most places had about 6" and in places up to 10". Your hang should be glorious with all that toboggan pulling goodness on the ground. If I wasn't going to be enjoying the sub tropics I would definitely be trying to make it.

Be careful out there for sure though. The June floods this year made some unstable trees. It would be prudent to set up in the light I think.

I am headed up to the SHT tomorrow and will let everyone know how the snow is looking up there. I am planning on starting at Finland rec center and hiking south towards Section 13. So, I'll be right in the area where the hang will be.

    GPS map

    Hi Stairguy
I can create maps using GPS coordinates. I have software for detailed topos and satellite images. Would be glad to do this ASAP.

    Water Source

A crik of that size should remain open in a normal year. If not, river ice is seldom so thick that you can not chop it out with either a hatchet or an ax.
