I'm pretty sure you mean the great RAINY North. I can't recall Van getting much in the way of cold or snow during your "winters". My sister just moved from there and had to re-buy all her winter gear and introduce her daughter to snow for the first time. Or are we not supposed to tell the world that there are warmer climes within Canada?

It wasn't until I moved up to Minnesota that I started having a real appreciation for winter. But when I saw footage of you crazy folks camping in subzero temperatures, I truly got the desire to try it out for myself. But first, I gotta have the right gear to survive.

I understand how the sleep systems keep you warm overnight, but how do you stay warm outside of your snuggly down underquilts and pods? Did no one suffer from painfully cold fingers or toes being exposed to those temperatures all day? Even digging in the snow to build an awesome igloo?

I would love to see some winter clothing lists from you brave souls.

My cuben tarp is ripped to crap, I got pummeled with insane winds and my thermometer crapped out at -26f. To make it even worse, I lost my camera after getting knocked down by a big gust of wind on top of section 13.

If I didn't have proper knowledge on knot tying and campsite selection, I probably wouldn't be here right now.
I learned so much on this trip and am happy I went because it just boosted my confidence that I can handle extreme situations. I will do a write up on exactly what happened on a separate thread.

It really was great seeing everyone and I had a blast the time I was there.

    Holy smokes Fronkey!!
Are we going to be getting a full-blown survival report with the legendary recovered footage?
It's gut-wrenching to hear about a cuben tarp ripped up. That wind up in Section 13 looked pretty brutal in Shug's video! I'm curious to hear how the tarp failed and even more interested to hear what you did to recover from a rough situation.
Your videos are awesome, and I look forward to that future write up!

Wow, Peello! Introduced to hammocks in October, and sporting a nice, tight rig in January at the Frozen Butt Hang!

...you'll be a DIY master by spring, right?

    Great to meet you!

I'm taking two of my kids on a kayak trip this summer and they both want to have hammocks. I think DIY hammocks are in the very near future...
