Def. follow that thread and let us know-there will be issues with the size of our group and the authorities there unless it's really cold or snowy, the rangers there don't come out when it's inclement.
MedicineMan, and everybody...would love to make this, but is right in the middle of my heaviest work schedule of the year,,Jan, Feb, Mar, and first week of April,,in charge of setting over 20 trade shows and various work orders and "fubar'ed" all to pieces by April 10,,,after that,,ready for a break and out of the concrete jungle for sure on anything. I sure wished I could make this as I would buy the steaks and pack them again. I have been eyeing this inbetween deer hunting and work,,to see what your dates were going to be..and March is just bad, bad bad for me, However,,there is always a last minute decision, will keep a eye on this for sure.

I've hiked all of Savage Gulf a few times. I actually posted a trip report from there a couple of months ago.

For a few thoughts: Chinese buffet: Shan Dynasty, exit 135 in Monteagle is quite good.

All three trail heads have campsites within 1/3 mile for those who arrive late. Official policy is no one is allowed to hike past them after dark. Good spot for those arriving the first night.

Personally, I feel you see a lot more over on the Stone Door side. Hobbs Cabin is neat, but if you are a hammocker, it's just another shelter. The only other really nice items on the southeast side is Savage Falls and Tommy Point Overlook.

The northwest side could offer day one of the Stone Door and its incredible overlook, plus the many small overlooks along the rim. (4 miles) From Alum Gap Campsite, you can slack pack the 3 mile there-and-back to Greeter Falls, then camp. day two, head down into the gulf for the creek walk and side trip to Ranger Falls. You can also visit the historic Decatur-Savage Cabin on the way to Sawmill Campsite and Schwoon Cave and spring next to the site. (8 mile day).

Day three (with vehicle prep and staging) could be the hike up to Collins Gulf. You could see Horsepound Falls, then another set of falls at the massive overhang/rock house just below the gulf's rim. Then out at Collins Gulf Campsite. (Total 4.5 miles)

Or you could backtrack the Connector Trail 3.5 miles then 1 mile up to Stone Door and the mile out to Stone Door Ranger Station.

Just thoughts. I might be able to get a Friday off, so if you pick trip dates that come out Sunday, I could attend and help with shuttles.

The trip report I posted shows most all the sights I mentioned.

All campsites offer multiple sites within them. Alum gap campsite offers an actual designated group campsite. All the campsites also off privies.

It's a great set of places to see and visit.

It appears those voting in the other poll are leaning toward 7 - 9 March...and I'm talking Chavez reelection percentages.

Roche, be sure you and Spam empty plenty of 16 oz Miller Lite aluminum bottles this weekend, and give the empties to Hangnout...

I'd have love to have come, but even receiving an invite caused my wife to telepathically intercept and treathen to pistol whip me with a garden hose as we have Ho, Ho, Ho duties everyday this weekend.
Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

So to use the minimal amount of alcohol, one first needs to consume the maximum amount of alcohol - sounds like a government project to me?

Just posting to let the organizers know that I am following with interest, but cannot make a commitment yet. I will stand by for the details and make my decision when they come through on this thread. I hiked Savage Gulf earlier this year. In fact, it was my first hang and it got down to 29*F overnight. Beautiful area.

I'm interested in making part of this hang. My work is very busy that time of year and I might only be able to make Friday night and some hiking on Saturday. I've hiked some in Savage Gulf--great area. I'll be watching for the details. Would love to get there and meet some of you in person.
