Boiling water in a cheap plastic bottle will turn it into a plastic booger with a lid. Nalgene is good to go, but don't put boiling water in it if you have intentions of using it without some kind of cover because you wont be able to snuggle up to it.

I use the hard shell Camelback bottle and never have had a problem with it. Usually try to use just really hot water and I leave the cap loose for a bit before tightning it, putting it in a large baggie for redundancy and crawling into my cacoon.

Hmmm... I used to have one of these. I will have to look for it and give it a try?

It kept me toasty last trip (other than ccf pad making my back sweat). Really read the directions on how the handwarmer works. It doesnt catch on fire, it is actually a catalytic reaction.

One of the things I like about a water bottle, is that especially in winter because of the cold air my mouth gets dry. A sip of warm water heats and quenches all at once.

Also, on those cool wet/damp days I can get a chill that is hard to overcome. The hot water bottle (inside 2 wool socks) in the hammock and between the thighs is great to get over a chill or mild hypothermia. I use a non-insulated stainless steel bottle that doubles as my coffee/hot coco mug.

I once was considering picking up some of these. Downside, they only last for a few hours and inherently have a weight penalty. Upside, they are reusable by placing them in a pot of boiling water during the next stop. Couldn't decide so, never bought them. How well do they really work?
