I love the idea! But the ticking of the clock has been keeping me up. I think I'm going to take that out of the equation.
I have heard of this being done before but I have never tried it myself. I used to have issues with my feet getting cold but then I got me a pair of down booties and I found that they are not only nice to have while sleeping (to keep the feet warm) but they also are a good tool if you need to go to the bathroom at night and you can just jump out and go and your feet stay nice and warm. I bought mine at REI but I am sure there are other places you can get them.

Have used hot water in bottles for years as a ground dweller and hanging had my wife(cold sleeper) out overnight in -15 tempts with 2 water bottles had to wake her in the morning (thought she might have been frozen solid) Was told she was toasty warm! the bottles were still warm to the touch and used the for Breakfast!
This is not a new trick to say the least. They have been using hot water bottles for years in New Zealand. Most of the homes there have no central heating at all or air conditioning for that matter. When I lived there, I learned quickly what the locals use to stay warm. I worked as a manager in retail while living there and we sold untold numbers of hot water bottles (rubber bladder bags that lay flat and measure about 12" long by 6" wide) and the cloth covers that go around them. Now that I am back in the states, I am thankful for central heating!!!!! The up side to living there was, no snakes, tornados, or hurricanes, just beautiful country and hunting year round.

I located a few of these hot water bottles for sale on Amazon and Ebay. They run $8 to $20 without covers. They are better than a hard Nagolene bottle to sleep with.

Do this with my nalgene. Works great!
Ditto , works like a charm!
Finally got to try this out this weekend. Freezing temps in at least part of the campground and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip.
The only way i survived sleeping outside in 7deg temps!
