    Thanks for the tip. I am hoping to try this if it ever gets cold in southern Tennessee.

    I got as far as page four... just sharing adding 10° to your bag can also be accomplished with a fleece beanie and or a ski mask.
    There was an Old Man with a owl,
    Who continued to bother and howl;
    He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
    Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl

    I finally tried this last Saturday night. The night started off at 25°, so I wasn't really worried, but wanted to see how well it worked. I used a 40 ounce glow in the dark Nalgene, put it in a reflectix cozy that came up to the shoulder of the bottle, then a Ziploc gallon bag, then a fleece sack.

    It still gave off an awful lot of heat, but when I poked my fingers inside the fleece bag, it was obviously much hotter. I took a drink out of it around 2:00, and it was still just hot enough to be drinkable tea temperature. It cooled off quickly after that, though. I'm sure because I introduced cold air when I opened it.

    Somebody mentioned using hand warmers. I have one of the zippo kind, and my standard trick, both in the hammock and just around camp, is to tuck it into my shemagh or scarf behind my head at the nape of my neck.
    I'm not certain why this works. Most of the blood arteries to the head are under your chin. However, it has the same effect as letting the hot shower water run down the back of your skull... Feels real nice.

    I've been using hand warmers in a sock in the bottom of my sleeping bag by my feet and they work like a charm, going to try out warm water and see how that does.

    ive got a couple of zippo style metal handwarmers that burn ronsonol fluid. i think an ounce will burn 6-8 hours. this past weekend, i was wearing a fleece pullover with check pockets in 23deg weather sitting in the dear stand. i put the handwarmers in the chest pockets. after about a half hour, my chest was sweating and i did not feel any coldness in my hands and toes. i think i will try them in the footbox of my sleeping bag and between the legs like the hot water bottle.

    Water cools down. That little Zippo heats for 12 hours.
