Those little HDPE Nalgene bottles work great for keeping you warm.
But...has anyone had the water bottle break during the night?
Even a small leak can be disastrous. I know many who love the water bottles, I keep all liquids as far from my down as possible. In some conditions a leak (or break) can be make for an uncomfortable night, in others it can be downright dangerous. Instead, I opt for having the appropriate insulation for the conditions. I also do a lot of solo winter (subzero) trips in the Adks, and I must manage risk appropriately when solo in those conditions. For others, the risk is less. YMMV
here. I use only Nalgene brand bottles.

i thought you guys meant hot water bottles you know the rubber ones man they keep ya warm all night infact ya have to kick em out of Bed as they get to hot LOL!!!!
I have also done this during winter camps as a ground dweller... works great and I am sure I will try it again when I hang in the winter.
I had an old scout master that would do this with hot rocks from the campfire. He would wrap them in burlap and stick them in the bottom of his sleeping bag.
