Maybe add the Kelty Noah 9x9 and 12x12 tarps. Great article!

What do other think? I contacted Kelty about these tarps and they admitted that they are not waterproof. They recommended buying a tent if you were looking for serious rain protection
I would hate to recommend these tarps to people knowing that they are essentially sun shades, where we rely on them for weather protection.
Thoughts?

I'm 99% sure I don't want to do this simply because it's way too much data to manage. I specifically did not include a lot of rigging hardware as well (e.g., Dutch Clips, Elephant Trunks, etc.) for the same reasons. I thought this "calculator" would be helpful as a general outfitting tool and comparison mechanism, but not "custom detailing." A lot of cottage manufacturers allow you to customize nearly every gear they offer, but that too became too much to manage.
Good catch. I've fixed that (unfortunately).

This is awesome, and I'm sure it was lot of work. Thanks for putting this together, it will undoubtedly be very popular.
flippin sweet. thanks that was awesome
Nice, very nice. I now know that my beginner setup from two years ago was less than $150, and my current setup is $1100.
This should really help noobs on a budget to see the difference between what they can afford, what they want, and the gulf between the two. I think I spent my entire first year on the forums trying to convince myself that I could have cheap AND ultralight, which is definitely not the case.
One thing that may not be readily apparent (especially to noobs) is that the comparison chart has drop-down menus, but entry-level, low cost and ultralight do not. I found it a wee bit confusing.
Also, it might be useful to show approximate costs for DL versions of Warbonnet, BIAS, Dream Hammocks, etc. This might help people struggling between DL hammock and pad, or single layer and UQ.
A nifty bit of code (not that I'm a programmer) for Swiss Army hammocks with integrated bugnet would automatically change the value under bugnet to N/A (included with hammock).
Great job!
