    Top Quilt Question

I am trying to decide on a top quilt. First the JBR is way out of my price range at the moment. I am looking at two DIY projects. One is the Hungry Howie from Thru-hiker and the other is Hammock Engineers idea of a sportsman’s guide bad mod. The SG mod would be the cheapest but I think I will be giving up a lot of weight on that. Howie’s is another but idea that’s looking promising.

23 minutes left a few minutes ago and at 4.99 a real steal for a top quilt.

    $18.84 shipping and handling
might be worth checking a local outlet for a suitable bag

TOG thanks for the idea. I didn't make it in time to catch it before the end but it is an idea. Most I have found like that weigh 6 to 9 pounds. I think cutting on them will reduce that a lot. What round about weight should I be looking for in a top quilt?

Around 24 oz. for a synthetic, less for down. If you make your own you can trim here and there too, customizing the fit and possibly knocking some weight/bulk off.

if i might offer a suggestion...call or go by you local dry cleaners in your area.. in a larger city would be preferable...ask if they have any stained down comforters..these are the ones they cleaned but the stain remains( it is cleaned though) many people refuse to pick them up unless they are like new and the cleaners will sell them at the cleaning cost(15 - 25 bucks) i have picked up several of these and made under quilts..sleeping bags ect out of them... might be a cheap way to get what ya need

You better hurry Tim. I think I just passed Keith on his way to the cleaners. When he leaves there, he will probably go to Wal-Mart. BD
