I think this hammock stand is for hikers and motorcycle campers. So if you add 2 feet to the poles, you increase pack size and add ounces.

The Hang Calculator tells me that with a 10' hammock I can still get to a sit height of 15'', which is not bad.

I wish I had this stand with me last fall in Ireland, it would have kept me off the ground a number of times.

Using the Hammock Hang Calculator I get 10" off the ground with an 11' hammock with 83% ridgeline. Not quite good enough to keep my underquilt safe. The poles need to be another foot long to give an additional 8" to the mounting height.

Due to popular demand we've added single struts to our shop.

Here's the latest newsletter update if you're interested in what we've been up to the last few weeks.

You can now carry just an extra 24 ounces (strut, guy-lines, anchors) to achieve a one-tree hang

    Best regards,
    Jason

    Thanks Jason.

Any chance you would sell something that would increase the height of the poles?

Also, the ring attachment to use with our own hammock?

    Thanks.

    Jason,

Is the single strut different from one ( using one only ) from the original setup ?

We are ready to order a full rig ( with additional rings to hang currently owned hammocks ) when a group shipping will lower the shipping cost.

My interest it peeked too if you can offer a 67" set that will allow user to hang a 11' (10' ridgeline) personally owned hammock. You know us spoiled War Bonnet Black Bird XLC guys

We have no plans to make a larger version of the struts in 2013. It's an idea that we may look at in 2014 if there's a market for it but for now it would be prohibitively expensive for us to re-develop our system and to build new jigs for fabrication. Our original concept was always focused on sub 10ft hammocks (our own) and the dimensions were always kept pretty minimal to keep the weight down.

Nice idea though and one that has occured to us. Who knows, we may even make a jumbo version later down the line once we're trading well. Something that can hold the whole family

The advert for this in the upper right corner caught my attention, as this thread had not.

I am surprised and disappointed by the absent enthusiasm, so far, for a product which is, tbomk, innovative in its engineering and a real solution. Not much of a welcome.

On suitability to hammocks used here: Well, for all the concern over weight, chalk up another casualty to long hammocks, which in addition to needed wider spacing, also need longer tarps with the added weight that length implies. Before dismissing this portable stand, which IS sized to fit, with gap underneath, every hammock Clark makes and a lot of other "backpacking hammocks" I'd encourage some of you on this thread to consider that a square yard of water-impermeable fabric, a ground cloth, would take care of concerns for the UQ when this is used with less than optimal spacing.

More, we'd all benefit from hearing more from some engineering / math types at HF on how this kit works, structurally. I haven't seen anything like it.

While I wouldn't be hauling this into the Bitterroots for a hike, the engineering involved here is pretty amazing and if the freight could be brought down I would definitely be considering a single strut unit or maybe even a handyhammock setup for the backyard.
