Handy Hammock - The Ultralight Hammock Stand

I received mine a couple of weeks ago and I really like it. I made the suggested modifications in order to fit my Hennessy. The only issue I have run into is the sheathing on the rope that attaches the disks to stand broke. It broke right where it's tied to the silver ring. When it broke the rope in the sheathing slipped and I became a ground dweller. I've never had sheathing break, but not the rope. Apparently the stress at the knot wore the sheathing down. I replaced it with Amsteel. I haven't had a chance to try it since I fixed it, but I'm sure Amsteel will do the job. Overall though I really like the system. We're going to Yellowstone and I plan to use it all week.

Well then, I hope you had the foresight to order the YELLOW hammock!

    Hi C&PDad
Message me your address an I'll get a replacement guy-line out to you. Sorry to hear that you had this problem. Is there a rough surface on the metal ring? Some of the rings used have a raised weld might that have been the cause?
    Thanks

No worries Jason. Thanks for the offer, but the I think the Amsteel will work fine. I'll check to see if there is a raised area on the metal. Thanks again for the offer!

I just drove through US New Mexico, Utah, Idaho and Oregon, across 1400 miles. Interesting that from high vantage-points you can look from horizon to horizon and wonder if there was a law against trees, there being none in some of those farmlands and prairies. Elsewhere, trees are abundant, but the trunks are hard to reach. Dense and long lower branches, and especially dead ones, can rule out hammocking use. Too many scratches to the arms, risks of puncture to the fabric, and pokes to the body.

I was (stealth) camping from a car, so I should have had Handy Hammock supports and rigging near everywhere I traveled. The time costs and frustration of searching for sites, without Handy Hammock (or equal -- is there an equal <smile>? -- can be onerous.

I'll upload pics of some alternatives to trees I could find. These include

    • fence-posts adjacent to enclosure corners,
    • nearby flag-poles, and
    • heavy wooden vehicle barriers.

I was glad to find those last-resort solutions, but they were never in the choicest location!!

Blaze you just sold me onto the idea of the Handy Hammock stand. I'm planning a trip for next year where there are no trees practically in the whole country...I'm going to rent a 4x4....so two hammocks attached to the 4x4 and one order of Handy Hammock for both hammock's grounding points.
Excellent video. I'll probably be pinging you for more info on the extended guy-lines you used next year.

Good one MedicineMan. Yeah, and then one hiking pole to support one end of the tarp.

Jason, How is the tarp set up coming along? Any thoughts on what the weight for the tarp will be?

    Hi round table knights,
The tarp set-up is coming along nicely and should be ready for next season. Need to do some field trials with it over the winter. It'll be available as a fully enclosed tent or canopy with open base. People buying the canopy will be able to buy a base to convert to the tent if they want. I'm not sure what the final weight will be, we're still tinkering with the design and materials.
