Ridge Runner questions...(Black Friday will be the death of me)

I have done a lot of research on getting a new setup after my house burned and I think that the RR is a good fit for me. I have always liked the idea of a bridge hammock, but they are on the heavy side. My only experience in sleeping a full night on one is a Lawson BRCH, which is a brick and not exactly "laying flat". I have laid back in a BMB, and it felt ok besides not having much of a view. Now they have a black friday sale and the price came down enough for my cheap-o self to consider it despite the threat of being killed in my sleep by my wife if i spend any more money today.

Can any owners or previous owners tell me what they DO NOT like about this hammock? even the little things. I know most of the strong points already, but I am sitting on "G" and waiting on "O" and I want a little advice before I sign my name on the dotted line.

    Thanks!

Oh the horror.....I didn't like not having a place to hang a small light. Fixed that by sewing in a couple of loops. I also didn't like...........oh wait....there wasn't anything else.

A little advice? Get the Lynx UQ at the same time. Your wife will thank you for leaving her with such a great setup.

WB also has a 60 day return for any reason policy.

Do you mean the bed, after she kicks me out? LOL

The Lynx is another problem for me, since I ordered 3 HG UQs and a HG Topquilt already today...

I am kind of worried about the tarp issues too, but I need a lighter tarp anyway.

This post may have been a cry for help to find some reason not to buy it.

    Thanks gmcttr!

the one thing i dont like about it is it doesnt have a pizza oven, and a beer cooler.the o in go will lead you to oooyeah.seriously though the one thing i would change if i could would be to change the metal in the suspension, where the spreader bars go, to a cross between what they are now ,and dutch biners.i might change them out later to make removal and storage of the spinaker much easier.

The HG UQs will work (for now) so get the Cloudburst tarp designed for the RR.

Cry's for help NOT buying new gear tend to fall on deaf ears around here. If I'm going to be broke, so should the rest of you.yesnod.gif

I just got mine earlier this week and it is incredibly comfy. I will be sewing in a loop too for hanging my headlamp and glasses. While it isn't a huge deal for me... if you really need to sleep fully on your side and a bit in the fetal position you won't really be able to pull that off. Bigger folks have a bit of a problem when they are laying on their backs with their arms at their sides with the edges rubbing on their arms.

Having said that... so far I love mine

The only thing I dislike about the Ridgerunner is that it moderately limits pitching options - it's both wider and longer than a normal gathered end hammock, so it's difficult to do things like squeeze two of them under a single tarp, or hang between two trees that are crazy close together. I've squeezed my Blackbird in between two trees just a hair over 9 feet apart. You need more like 13-ish minimum for the Ridgerunner.

In terms of comfort, ease of insulating, view, versatility of sleeping positions, storage, and flat lay, it's a real winner.

Really....the only negative is the weight and even that is not that bad. I think the poles are about ten ounces and you can eliminate that with the hiking pole adaptors. I haven't used any of my other hammocks since I bought mine. Having said that...when I return to the AT this May, I'll probably be in a Darien UL. Cutting weight is the prime objective on a long distance hike. On shorter hikes I'll be willing to tote the Ridgerunner...it's THAT sweet.

Man...After hearing about the 60 day return policy, I decided to take the plunge! I had it all ordered and went to paypal to pay, but then Paypal glitched out and said that it could not process the order, to call the seller to resolve the problem... was this a sign?

I tried again today, and got the same result, but I have an email in, so maybe there is still time.

I have not told my wife yet, but when she asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I started sweating, and said "I don't need a thing"

Really, my wife is cool with it, I am just a little DRAMATIC at times.

Thanks again for pushing me over the edge! mwahahaha
