An eye lag screw is my concern, I don't think I'm interested in that and an eye bolt all the way through the stud where the bolthead is in the other room doesn't appeal either. Plus the force is pretty much all on one stud that way. I need to spread the load out.

2Q; i think its a more than solid idea. The only thing i would suggest is to drill a few holes in the top for fastening a larger wooden shelf onto and dual purpose it,,,you know a book shelf, a plant,,, a flat screen (-; .

ZQ here....Yes!! That is the idea...and my additional idea...to paint it the color of the walls, add a nice painted or stained wooden shelf so the whole thing is prettified!

Top notch, 2Q. Love the shelf idea. i use a hammock in my room for my bed and i rock the 'eye sore' eye bolt straight into the wall. It works, but its not classy by any means. Post picks when you get it all figured out

16" to center of studs both sides of walls. Plenty strength for both of you together or even double layer hammy and get a few others in as well.
Great idea to multipurpose the shelf and you could still use the ends with eye bolts to lay down parallel to the wall(if the wall shares the 2 corner shelves)
And I second the picture. Motion passed. We need pictures.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

WARNING!!! I dont mean to be a party pooper but lots of builders use just a couple of small pieces of scrap 2x4 and not a full length 2x4 to create a nailing point for the interior wall. It may or may not be as strong as you would like.

True...but it would still give me 3 out of 4 full studs. I'm guessing this house is built with a full stud however. We noticed when we remodeled other rooms that the studs are a full 2x4! Thanks for the insight, I appreciate that!

Tim - Your idea looks like it should work fine. Have you considered something similar made from hardwood?

Well, I trust my friend's metal fabrication and welding skills more than I trust my carpentry skills. I will have a cabinet builder friend take a look at it. I can see how that wood look much nicer. A corner shelf with 3-4 shelves combined with a hammock hookup would be perfect. Thanks for the idea.

Edit...mind juices flowing now....I can visualize a cabinet with a door to store the hammock when not suspended.

Excellent idea! I often take one side of my hammock down leaving the quilts on it to access my bed and it would be nice to have a cabinet to stow it in instead of just leaving it hanging against the wall. I hope you will take pics during your progress.
