    Looking for Some Tarp Advice

Thank goodness Christmas is right around the corner, because I need a tarp! I have been doing some research, looking into different options, but with all the choices out there I'm finding that making a decision on a tarp is a bit overwhelming. I was hoping to ask you guys for some input and advice - what do you have experience with, what do you like to use as part of your setup and why, etc. I'm located in Georgia and for the foreseeable future all our backpacking will be done in the Southeast. I'm not looking for anything extreme in any direction - I don't need a super ultralight tarp, but I don't want anything that's jumbo-sized either, and as far as weather goes, I think I'm looking at anything fit for 3 seasons (any temps below freezing make me want to seriously consider hibernation 'til spring!) Also, not sure if choice in hammock affects tarp choice, but if it helps with the advice-giving I've settled on a Warbonnet Blackbird.

So what do you guys think? Thanks in advance for the opinions!

There are certainly a lot of choices. I'd recommend the MacCat Deluxe normally but since it's got a 10' ridgeline and the BB is a 10' hammock that wouldn't work well. The next size up in my arsenal is the AHE Toxaway. It's hanging over my Light Hiker right now. I'm pretty happy with it. It's got a nice, 12' ridgeline so it should provide plenty of coverage. That would get you want you want without being too big like my JRB 11x10.

I highly recommend the Big Mamajamba (BMJ). It's a good size and you can get optional doors if necessary. I like this because I hate having a huge tarp with doors when going out for a 3-day trip to find it 70°, sunny and dry every day. It doesn't hurt, but I enjoy the trip much more knowing I didn't overpack. There's less fuss tying back doors and just looks so nice set up in proch mode! And of course, I like things to match from the same company and the natural greenish color of the blackbird and tarp look amazing in the woods!

I love my tadpole. Here's a quick video of how I have it rigged up.

Take a look at Gargoyle gear.... I have just purchased a Tadpole myself, and do own the mega ogee.. I myself prefer a longer ridgeline coverage as opposed to the sides.. You might like both.. You really can't go wrong with the folks here that make gear, and if you change your mind it is easily sold or traded.. Have fun!.......
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

WB Edge is awesome over the BB. Enough size to cover without making you haul around extra weight.

Not quite. You're forgetting that while the hammock body length is 10', the BB has a ridgeline of 8'-4" (100"). Also, the MacCat Deluxe has a 130" ridgeline and works very well with the BB.

I second this one. Great tarp for the $$$.

I like the Silnylon tarps from Etowah ultralight outfitters it comes in many sizes and weights and is very affordable ! They are very well crafted and I have never had a problem with either of the two I own! On sale too!
