Looking To Hang Near Central Park, NYC

When you mentioned "Highlands" I thought you meant New Jersey. I have family across the Lower Bay in Highlands near Sandy Hook but that's also pretty far away for someone who wants to use public transportation.

You don't have to climb breakneck to get to a place to hang. This site may be helpful though..

You may want to check out John Jay Park on the East Side....go a bit north of 79th St.
River view and small but some small wood nooks there.
Used to live by John Jay for years.

I'm looking for the places that you pay to camp/hang, etc. Tough to do anywhere near in or really close to the city.

However..... it would be an interesting story to see if I could wear a small pack and hide out in Central Park, or elsewhere (John Jay), for two nights.

I suspect that if I find a "secret spot" then others be there as well.

Thanks for the information. I was looking in that direction to see what's up there. I would normally not be concerned with a 10-15 walk but on both nights I'll be there I'll be carrying a guitar and we getting back to "wherever" during drunken hours, like 3am or such.

I did find a source for "NYC Campers" but most of them were like you mentioned or a combination of taking a train out then a greyhound or other bus thing.

Why not NJ? You can just take the ferry from the Highlands into NY. Or you can stay at Cheesequake State Park and catch a train from Aberdeen in to the City

I'm thinking the ferry may not run at the wee drunken hours. And of course I may be wrong. And the train, don't know that schedule. Still much to learn.
