You should be able to find some coastal area near Sandy Hook beach NJ that you could put a fishing pole in the ground and get away with it. Thats if the beach is still there
I remember a post about a guy who would hang in central park in the canopy of trees. Although won't be feasible with your guitar and other gear.
I know you want to hang, but options are very limited in one of the biggest cities in the world. What about a hostel? There's one in the area of 34th and 8th somewhere....or maybe it was 44th...I am sure google could tell you.
What about gateway national park in Brooklyn?

I don't know what Staten Island is like, after the storm, but there are many potential opps for stealth camping there in a positively rural setting.
