Today I replaced the stock foot pedal with a new electronic replacement foot controller. All the cleaning and lubricating I did would not eliminate the light switch like low to high jump so I searched youtube vids to try and work out the bugs. Found one video describing the difference between the old style and modern controllers so decided to do the swap.

Here's the video of my before and after:

Wow! What a difference. Thats going to be my next add on for the machine! Thanks for the video, DBLOCK!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Very nice, DBLOCK. A world of difference. Would you mind sharing the part number for that foot controller? One of my 201s could use the upgrade. Thanks.

gmcttr just posted a link to a Needlebar thread on cleaning the old style carbon pile controller if you are interested HERE. Lots of good info on Needlebar, but you do have to join.

    Detail Man,

I purchased the "Foot Control Electronic 2 Wire Type- UL 1.2 amp Item# SCE168FC" after cleaning and lubricating my machine, and then going through the original foot controller as best I could.

It sounds like there's some good instructions for cleaning the older style controllers so would be interested to read the results if you try their suggestions before replacing yours...

If all else fails, here's a link to the part on the sew-classic website:

Thanks for the link TZ. Doesn't look like Needlebar allows lurkers, or want any new members like me looking for ways to keep my machines running well, based on their forum rules. In their words, maintaining machines is off-topic. They are first an online museum.

Yea, they are a bit of a stick in the mud, it is based in the UK, but many moderators are US based, and once you are in it is a pretty neat place to find info

I have copied it to a PDF, hope it helps

Thanks TZ. Several of the good Singer sites are similar or Yahoo Groups that have a few rules that make HF look under moderated.
