I've been planning on making a "Winter Dream" tarp out of 4-mil plastic. I'm planning on reinforcing not only the edges, but also the axes along which the tie-outs apply tension the same way it was shown in video the OP linked to. It definitely won't be light, but I'm hoping it keeps me warmer during the winter. I'll be posting how it goes on HF once I actually get around to it. Thanks for the link to the Cubenist Manifesto!
