How does a HH become lighter?

I purchased an older HH in brown, I am dumping the tarp and getting a custom tarp with Stormcrow.... what other ideas can I do to reduce overall weight short of replacement? I saw a great thread from a member a couple of years ago, but cannot find it now.... kind of awkward.

A big weight decrease would be to replace the stock suspension with whoopie slings..
Call dutch and get some whoopie slings with whoopie hooks and straps..

Replace the stock suspension with 7/64" whoopies and the stock ridgeline with 1.75mm Lash-it.

Other than replacing the suspension with whoopies, I don't believe you can do anything to lighten up the hammock. A suspension swap may save you a few ounces, but if your wanting to cut the weight more dramaticly you're probably going to have to switch rigs.

You could get a 2QZQ mod so you can leave the bugnet at home when not needed.

There you go. Change the suspension to the lightest variant you can, either remove the bugnet altogether, or make it 'removable' with zippers (that might add to the overall weight, but give you the option of leaving it behind when you don't need it).

Beyond that, all you can do is to get a hammock made out of a lighter material, or a smaller hammock.

The netting is not completely removable. With the mod #4, the netting can be unzipped to the foot end and stowed in a small peak bag. ZQ

Give some thought to modifications. The tarp was easy. Totally changing the suspension is more of a hassle for a couple of ounces. You will cancel some of that with the zipper mods. I'm not saying don't do it. I am saying there are some folks who push various mods because a gram saved is a gram earned or something along that order. Think through what you want before you do it and then decide it was a bad move for you.

You can probably save around 4 oz by shortening the ropes to long enough to install either descender rings or a buckle system. Changing out the ropes completely and changing the ridge line is another 1-2 oz but a lot of hassle as well as changing to a smaller rope thus concentrating forces on the attachment points. Something to consider if you are pushing the weight limit.

Before I took off the bug net I would just make another hammock. You can make an open hammock equivalent for probably less than $30 with no sewing. That is assuming you can swap the suspension.
