Looking at Big South Fork... do you guys have any suggestions?

    Hi all,

Looking for some opinions of those who have been to Big South Fork. Thinking about heading there first or second week of January for a single night trip with a friend of mine. We are looking at maybe doing the Leatherwood loop sans packs first and then picking up our packs and doing an overnight trip on the Angel Falls Overlook trail (assuming there's camping there... we're trying to confirm that).

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Brandon

There are campsites on the river before you go up to the Grand Gap Loop where Angel Falls Overlook is at. It is a fairly steep climb up to the overlook with some places requiring holding on to cables.

Best spots are after the last bridge at the base of the trail up. Just wonder toward the river and you will see multiple campsites

The foot bridge at Leatherwood was washed out last time I was there. You have to use road bridge then drop back down to the trail

    Enjoy

I was about to suggest the same route as Hangnout . That is a great hike and overlooking the bluffs has many great views.

The Hidden Passage loop, coming back on part of the Sheltowee Trace, is a great over-nighter there in BSF area, too.

Don't overlook Charit Creek Lodge as an option/suggestion.
    Charit Creek Lodge web site.

I'm leading a group there in January.

Many thanks for the suggestions, guys! I really like the idea of a loop and 10 miles sounds about right. I'll go over them with my hiking buddy and figure out what we're going to do. We're probably going to do this trip in January, also.
