    Baffles in a pillow?

Thinking about DIYing me a down pillow, more as a warm up to working with down than out of need. I'm curious though, do you put baffles in it or just sew a sack and stuff it?

I would assume just make a sack and stuff it since that's how regular down pillows are.

Yes - you can use baffles, but it won't make a difference for such a small thing - except for a lot more work. You would have to stuff it full, so just make a sack and fill it up. Much easier.

I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

But as a warmup to other down gear, throw in a baffle or two. You may invent a better pillow.

FWIW...Baffles are used in quilts to keep the down in place (spread out) as they only use enough down achieve full loft.

Baffles aren't needed in a pillow because it gets stuffed full enough to provide support (and it's small).

However, as WV states, you could put baffles in just to get used to working with them.

No baffles needed as density of down will be fairly high in a pillow. Baffles in a quilt are to control down while lofted. Density in a quilt is much lower than in a pillow. A 10X12 pillow will need roughly 3 oz of down to acheive modesty density. If you prefer a firm pillow 3 1/2 to 4 oz will be needed...

There is a learning curve. If you play with baffles now, it will make doing your other projects much easier. I wanted to make a yurt, I made one out of paper first, then onto tyvek, then onto my expensive space age material. The final one was exactly what I wanted and easily put together.

I have a kingsize pillow, it has baffles with down, then a TempurPedic type core. It makes a really nice pillow.
