    Thanks!
I am renting a kayak from the local REI and I don't have a PFD.
Would I be able to rent that too?

I thought this would be awesome chance to learn how to set up and what gear I wanna purchase in the future EXCEPT I will be ashville until may so my reason for posting is I wanted to ask how often are these held in or near the triangle am I missing a rare chance or am I likely to see something similar again one day?
Welcome to the forums, skyline! I'm not very familiar with the Triangle are, but there might be some good hangs near Asheville, NC before May. Group hangs are held all over almost all the time. We even welcome tenters who are hammock curious and want to meet the gang. Search in the "Outings>Hangouts, Campouts, and Trip Planning>Southeast" for more threads in your area.
Also feel free to message any of us with questions. We're happy to help.

Aren't you coming in on a motorcycle? Please post pictures of you coming in with the kayak strapped to your bike some how. Sorry couldn't help...

It'll be cool that you'll be out there with us. That makes a total of three so far. You should be able to get a PFD and a paddle when you rent the boat.

Do you know what kind of kayak or the length you plan on getting?

I want to thank Jeremy for helping with this. I'm a busy, busy bee right now and need his assistance and am confidant he can do a fabulous job!

Please... by law every one has to have a PFD with them and for liability (and your own butt) everyone has to wear it.

Also pack a picnic lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen & bug juice. A good sun hat is a plus and so are some walking shoes, a sit pad or blanket or something.

The trip can range from a mile or two to many miles depending on the paddlers ability and type of boat.......
Some boats are made for puttering around with stable flat wide bottoms and some are built with sleek more narrow hulls for covering miles. If the group is this diverse the short recreational boats (8'-10') may want to group together for shorter trips and the longer touring boats (12'-16') may want to do miles. That's why we are asking about boat types, so everyone will be happy in their skill type.

In any case the trip will be over in plenty of time for everyone to be back for the big event. FUN, FOOD, BOATS & HAMMOCKS! Who could ask for anything more!!

I may rent a boat (+ PFD & paddle) from REI on Friday. I haven't decided yet, but if you want, count me in as probable. Type of boat to be determined (most likely touring)...I know I'm a lot of help in your planning, but wanted to let you all know it's possible I may join you all.

Will have my yak and PFD. My pup has his as well if I decide to let him ride along. Kayak is a Perception Sport Destiny 12. Kind of a hybrid cross tween a canoe and a kayak. And I don't mind longer runs or short paddles. It's all fun in good company
Leave me alone, I'm only talking to my dog today.

I've got 2 butts in the smoker, going on 7 hours now. I'll vacuum seal and freeze them after they're pulled.

Dang Shug! That looks delicious )

Catavarie: perhaps some of us could paypal you some funds and you or someone local could buy some local BBQ and bring that? Unless someone wants to bring a smoker and tend to it...

My butts are done and pulled. Looks like I'll have about 8 pounds to bring depending on how much I sample. Gotta taste test.
