I'm brand new to the forum and to hammock camping. Don't think that I'm ready to sign up for full participation in the hang, but was wondering if it would be apropos to come by Saturday to visit for a while and see some equipment set up and in use.

Yes, you will find hangers quite happy to show off their gear! It's a great way to check out hammocks before purchasing.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I'm sorry to here that you won't be able to attend, GrannyPat. I'm sure we can work out someway to get any winnings to you.

Feel free to come out for the entire weekend, nothing required beyond your enthusiasm needed. If you want to camp in a hammock, I'm sure there will be a few extras around (I'm bringing all 6 of mine) to be loaned out. Or you can bring a tent if you like as well.

Welcome to Hammock Forums, Itinerant Codger! Your first post - here on the Smoked Butt Hang Thread - shows you have a distinguished level of good taste and a discerning ability to find a group of great folks. There are lots of really good people posting in this thread (OK, so really, not just this thread).

At least one other person or two is also dropping in Saturday just to see some gear and meet some people and maybe take a dayhike - or just lollygag all day. Otherwise her dad will want a doctor's excuse

Looking forward to seeing you there too!

    Someone said BBQ?

All this talk about BBQ gave me the incentive to break out my own smoker and try my hand at pulled pork. Based on my family's reaction, it's a success so I'll bring about 4 lbs on Saturday.

Traditional Carolina recipe for the rub, but no sauce added so you can customize to your liking.. I prefer more tomato based sauce than my family, so I left it alone after pulling and freezing. I've never tried freezing BBQ, so I'm not guaranteeing anything, but more than welcome some feedback.

I'm a firm believer that the best sauce is made from the drippings off the meat, with that said I'm not promising to necessarily sauce my butts with this method as it is a bit more difficult and time consuming, but I may give it a shot depending upon how I feel.
