    Double Prusik Under Quilt Suspension

I was watching SGT Rock's video on how he replaced his UQs' suspension lines with Dutch's quilt hooks. His setup really allows his UQs to lay on a diagonal. I don't know if I'm ready or have the skill to sew loops into my hammock yet so I thought I may be able to replicate it using two prusik knots at each end of my hammock instead of just one prusik that allows the UQ to be pulled up, but doesn't shift the quilt to the diagonal.

I undertook the a quick test on my patio with my Jacks 'R" Better Mount Washington 4 and the standard JRB Under Quilt suspension system.

    Here are the results:

These next two pictures are my attempt to show the offset

As you can see the JRB UQ suspension system is too long, which is why I used a cord lock in the middle. I was thinking of modifying it through a combination of Knotty's Adjustable Under Quilt Suspension and/or replacing part of the shock cord with some non-stretchable cord like Zing-It or some draw cord.

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on how to improve the design or if you see any weaknesses that I hadn't thought of.

I recently changed my UQ suspension to that setup.
Previously, I ran the suspension to the hammock ends, but now I'm running it to two prussics like your picture shows. I need to do further testing, but this should lift the quilt as well as pull it toward the ends. Fine tuning between those two directions can be accomplished by sliding the prussic along the ridgeline. The amount of tension can then be adjusted by shortening of lengthening the lines.

Of course this works only for netless hammocks.

    Mike,

If you don't mind me asking, how long is your shock cord?

Just out of curiosity, did you change to this setup before or after your post from a couple of days ago?

    Sincerely,
    Dave

One could design and make an asym triangle thingy to accomplish this on a netted hammock.

Mike, the more and more I think about it, I like the idea of adding line locs to the each corner of my under quilt to adjust the tension. If you were going to do that, then you could have an individual piece of shock cord from each corner to its respective prusik and attach it with a biner (or tie it on permanently). This would avoid the shock cord between the two prusiks and eliminate the additional stretching from that particular section of the cord.

Packeagle, I think that would work, but you might end up having to try different shapes and sizes of the triangle to get the fit you want, though once you got it dialed in then you wouldn't have to worry about it moving on you like prusiks (if you move them by accident or change our your ridgeline).
