    Senior Moment

well I met another hiker interested in my Hammock this morning whilst I was packing away, it was a real frosty start and I had a kettle boiling for my brew. I guess I was trying to do too many things at once.

The end result was that I left one of my tree straps complete with whoopie, TI dutch Clip and Hook on the tree.

Just to rub it in I spent the rest of the Hike today thinking i was missing something (no not that), so much so that I checked my bag when i got back to the car. Nothing missing!

I only unpacked my hammock when I got home and as I pulled the snake skin back only one strap

    I'd feel better if I had left both . . . . . . but one!

Hang on the same tree on your next trip and you can shorten your setup time

Seriously, i have developed a good habit (rare for me) of standing in my camp site, once everything is packed away, and thoroughly inspecting the trees and the ground between them.

You won't forget again....believe me. I always take them down as I un-hook the whoopie and put them around my neck/shoulders.

Ha - first I would do would be to plan the same trip in a short time! I've learned the lesson from a wife who leaves things everywhere that I check and recheck an area several times before I go.

put a belt buckle on one of those straps and then if you try to leave it on the tree your sagging trousers will remind you. ...?...

Make your tree straps out of fluorescent coloured webbing and a quick glance around camp will remind you.

Of all the stupid stuff I do (like carrying spare tree strap and whoopie), leaving stuff behind is not one of them. I drive people crazy inspecting the campsite, scouring the ground for anything I (or they) may have left.

My oldest son, on the other hand, would leave his head behind if it were detachable. On an August canoe trip in the Adirondacks, he left one of his whoopie slings in the car because he didn't think it was necessary. Luckily, I was able to get his hammock hanging with only one whoopie sling, a spare tree hugger, and four or five continuous loops I carry for emergencies.

Like I said, leaving stuff behind is not my problem. Bringing too much stuff? Definitely a problem.

Normally I also take too much and I normally scour the campsite for any kit I may have dropped.
My only excuse is that my kettle was boiling and I was talking again!
Tree strap cum belt buckle! I hadn't thought of that i wonder if 8 feet will be long enough??
