Round here most camping is to avoid the 110+ degree heat though we don't have quite the humidity.

In years past, as a beginner & not sure of my skills & gear, yea, weather could make me call off a trip. Now, I don't think I would go with a Hurricane on the way, but anything less & I'm there!

The weather over here is so unpredictable and quick to change that I'd hardly ever be able to go camping if it was weather dependant, especially in the better locations I just prepare for the lowest recorded temp for that month and go.

I can't think of a reason I would bail... If a hurricane or other sever weather were bearing down I wouldn't know it anyway; Roz would call to tell me she and Gage (if he wasn't with me) are bugging out. It would be up to her if I cancelled my trip, or if they joined me in the woods. I would cancel if my family were in danger; but if I am alone and they are safe, then I am going to have an EPIC trip!

In fact, the only time I can remember cutting a trip short is when I flipped my boat, that was before cell phones, and I lost my glasses. I bailed early because I thought it would take me much longer to drive home without being able to see very well! It was February, but if I had thought to pack a spare set of glasses I would have stayed... I always pack spares now.

I've bailed early once. We were at linville gorge (a couple of miles of winding road that is semi-vertical at flattest on both sides. It was when they had that storm going across this fall and sandy coming in, when they called for over a foot of white stuff, and they guys more from the area/up north said it was time to get out, I left with them.

    Okay, I'm going!

Wow; got some response on that one! I'm encouraged to hear about a 100% agreement to go unless it's some kind of extreme. I have a new 12 cuben fiber tarp with doors I've set up once to trial the ridgeline setup.

I think this would be the perfect opportunity to test and you're right about testing the rain gear and shoes too!

I guess it doesn't hurt to have a nudge of encouragement; certainly a sign of old age when you think twice about weather you would have laughed at and for my friend who said..."if it ain't raining, it ain't training"...I can relate to that

This will be my longest solo/hammock hike so I'm excited about it. Small miles for many of you but for me it's a real life adventure and since I'm the only one going, I'm the only one who has to be impressed and i'm easily impressed

    Enjoy the day
    Gideon

Why thank you Gideon. So did you ever decide what ridge line to use for your new cuben fiber tarp?

Yep if you have the gear for it the worse the weather the better, key there is have the gear, if you don't stay in, and know when to bail. I routinely get "umm you know a storm is coming in right" when I go camping. Had one state park call me every day to make sure I was still alive in the storm. Bad weather just reduces the extra people that can do stupid things and bother you, IMO.
