    WA Hanger

Hello from sunny Washington! I guess Shugemery got me into the hammock thing, I've watched several of his videos on Youtube and learned a lot about hammock camping. I think Shug should get some kind of award for his videos, that guy is awesome! Since then I've purchased an ENO DoubleNest with the Pro Fly tarp. I've been out a couple of times and have fallen in love with the simplicity and purity of what hammock camping offers. I'd really like to get into 4 season camping, don't know how well things will stand up to the typical Washington wet winters. If anyone has ideas please share, I can't wait to see what adventures come in the future with my hammock!

    Welcome from Camano Island!

This will be my first winter with a hammock - hopefully, I get the guts to actually camp outside... I'm collecting tarps and playing with insulation at the moment.

    Welcome from Denver!

+1 on learning about cold weather hammocking from Shug. Many cold weather tent practices apply (use hot water bottles, stay dry, protect from wind, etc.).

One of the best tips might be to start easy in your backyard or a state campground where bailout options are safe and easy. Good luck!

Another good experience would be for you to attend a local group hang. Meet some people, get some time seeing hammock gear firsthand & talking around the campfire.

Check out the trip planning section for the next Oregon hang in January (Mt. Hood) and the next Washington hang in Ellensburg (around late February or early March).

Welcome to the forums from Indiana.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Thank you for the advice! I have been conducting "training" exercises in my backyard, last night to be exact. djminnesota, thank you for the article, looking forward to reading! One of my favorite things is enjoying the morning reward of Starbucks Columbia Via coffee and my Jetboil flash! Life is great in WA this morning!
