    Hammocking setup-2 kids, 1 adult

How would you arrange 3 hammocks with one adult and two kids so that you have the maximum amount of proximity and visual contact. I tried arranging overlapping rainflies once with me and one child, but rain made its way in between the rainflys and drips into the hammocks.

I would get a big tree for the head end. Hang kid 1 so the support comes from the right side of the tree and kid 2 so the support comes from the left side of the tree. Adult goes in the middle, hung higher than the kids. You could fit all three under a MacCat Delux sized tarp, a 10 x 11, etc.

The other option is to hang from three trees in basically a straight line, sharing the tree in the middle. Two hammocks under one tarp and the third (probably yours) on your own. You'll be able to see each other thru the ends of the tarps.

Or hang more-or-less parallel and side-by-side, using hiking poles to raise the sides of the tarp facing each other. Might be more distance between you depending on how close the trees were set up, but you'd be able to see each other.

I don't think you can do it under one tarp; unless you're willing to stack somewhat. Using three trees with two of the hammocks with the head ends tied to one tree, foot ends tied to separate trees. Then you could rig your hammock with the head end between the two trees (lots of webbing) and the foot end tied to the single tree slightly higher or lower than the other two rigs.

It looks good in my head, but I seem to be having a difficult time describing it; sorry.

This doesn't really answer your question (or maybe it will), but I have found that if you hang two kids together (sorry, I mean hang their hammocks close together -- boy that didn't sound right ), maybe sharing one tarp, they keep each other company really well. Then you can hang your hammock and tarp as close as possible. When they go to bed I talk to them, rock them, or sit close to them until they're comfy.

Then of course be prepared to pretty quickly answer any call-outs during the night either in person or by voice.

I've found that if I don't make things into a big deal with the kids, it doesn't turn into a big deal, but what worked for me might not work for you. YMMV.

Here's the way we did it w/ three adults.

We used two tarps overlapped at the peak of the A-frame.
We also used the same tree for the foot end of all three hammocks, but separate trees for the head ends.
Finding the right group of trees could be a challenge at times.

And the ends of the tarp(s) were so high that if we would have got rain w/ any wind at all, we would have needed to use the 3rd person's tarp to cover one end.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
