It seems fairly flexible in its use and design. Figure out a way to harness either the heat or electricity(the real challenge here) and you may have a usable concept. I may look in to a project like this myself as my wife and I love to go winter camping. I make fire spinning gear, theatrical props, and have worked in Electronics research and development for years so it seem I may be particularly well suited for this task.

Check out your local Lowe's for a Suntouch mat. They are in floor heat systems of vinyl/plastic and run on low voltage. Might work with a small solar rig. Controlling the voltage to the heater may not require a thermostat since you will be sourcing a very low voltage generator to start with.
