how about using a campfire to power your hammock. you will have to workout a log per watt ratio to see if it's feasible.
BRILLIANT! Im buying one of these asap!

Ooh ya i think the cost of destroying one or two of those would be a bit much :-)

The cheap way is to start with this and add battery power of your choice

There are different thicknesses of wire for different power supplies.

It seems fairly flexible in its use and design. Figure out a way to harness either the heat or electricity(the real challenge here) and you may have a usable concept. I may look in to a project like this myself as my wife and I love to go winter camping. I make fire spinning gear, theatrical props, and have worked in Electronics research and development for years so it seem I may be particularly well suited for this task.

Check out your local Lowe's for a Suntouch mat. They are in floor heat systems of vinyl/plastic and run on low voltage. Might work with a small solar rig. Controlling the voltage to the heater may not require a thermostat since you will be sourcing a very low voltage generator to start with.

This does look like a good thing to explore.

However, their sleeping bag seems a bit far fetched, claiming 7-12 hours run time from a 4400mAh battery.
