Red face Howdy! from the high country of NC.

    Recently came across this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sTft2mLI0k

I now own a Grand Trunk Nano hammock and would like to go with a similar setup as the gentleman in the video, but I really have no idea where to begin.

So, I came to this forum for help piecing together a "light" setup for long distance hikes and tours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome from Boone neighbor! Watch Shug's Video's for a plethora of info on Hammock Hangin. Very entertaining. Just look him up on youtube. There is also a group hang at Mount Rogers in Jan. It will be my first time at a group hang but they say it is really good way to see several different set-ups so you can see which may be best for you. Most of all have fun with it! It is so much better than a tent!

Welcome aboard from the flat lands.

Definitely check out Shug's videos. They are a great place to start filled with useful information and highly entertaining.

Group hangs are great to gain hands on experience with lots of different setups and rigs. Although the Mt Rogers one may not be the most newbie friendly, but I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you showed up in a tent as cold hanging takes a good amount of skill to do so safely.

that was A LOT of information! way too many options!

I just want a simple, light, affordable, and able to withstand a thru hike of the JMT set-up. I like the blackbird, but I just bought the nano.

hmmmmm.... when is the Mt. Rogers hang?

    Welcome!

Some of us have single line suspensions (SLS), others like web strap and buckle systems, and others go with whoopie slings.

I have all three but don't have enough experience yet to decide.

Let us know what you discover, okay?

Hello from SC. Spent four years of my life in the great town of Boone. Nice place to live. The first thing you will need to check is your bank account, then look around here and you will find the the best gear available.
