A question for the side sleepers.

I am a restless, side sleeping, insomniac. Do you side sleepers use a pillow or rolled up jacket or whatever between your knees when in your hammock? At home I usually just tuck some of the sheet and blanket between my knees. I am leaning towards the pillow idea for hammock sleeping, but not sure... I am a noob.

I am a side sleeper and stomach sleeper in a bed. When I lay in my hammock on my back I stay in that position all night. I never move. Have you slept in a hammock yet?

You described my sleeping to a T.
I use an Exped air pillow so I can adjust the amount of support for my head and neck and I use a stuff sack with extra cloths for my knees.

I've found if I can simulate my bed sleeping position I fall asleep much faster.

Also hammocks that allow me to sleep feet left or right and head at either end lets me find that sweet spot quicker.
I think it's a old guy thing, haha

    Bad sleeper...

I will generally use 1-2 stuff sacks with clothing within.

Yes I do use a pillow. Base camping I have one of those squishy pillows for between my knees but if I'm backpacking it's a stuff sac with whatever's left to put in it.

I do the rotisserie action in my bed. In the hammock I'm usually on my back the whole time. Last night I slept on my side but I cant my hips a bit and don't use a pillow. Hard to explain I guess. I've never slept on my stomach in the hammock but it seemed pretty comfortable in my BMBH UL.

I'm just like Mountnman: In a bed, I can't sleep unless I'm on my side, but then I toss from one side to the other all night long because one or more parts of me hurt. In the hammock, I sleep like a baby on my back. Sometimes I will lay at kind of a 45° angle in the hammock, but at some point I end up on my back. Sleeping on my back took some getting used to, but it is by far the most comfortable way to sleep in the hammock because it distributes your body weight over the largest area.

    Good luck.

I tend to sleep on my side and sometimes on my back in the hammock, never on my stomach. Don't feel the need for a pillow because the ends of the hammock are steep/high enough to provide one naturally. To me, not having to carry a pillow is one of the advantages of a hammock. Never needed one between my knees, in or out of a hammock, and never understood why people need that, but recognize some people do.

consider that sleeping position and comfort relies heavily on your under-insulation.
an underquilt is in most cases wider than a pad and allows the user to spread out more, finding comfortable positions easier without suffering cold spots.

a pad, on the other hand, may require your body to remain in a straighter position. in my experience, pulling your knees up to a near-fetal position is not possible with pads unless you perform 'widening' modifications or DIY closed cell foam.

add me to the list of back sleepers in a hammock who otherwise HATE sleeping on my back at home.
