Cool First Annual - "Bold City" Hang!!!

So it seems there are quite a few folks in JAX that hang (and/or want to) - this is awesome!

So, what does everybody say about getting together finally and meeting everyone?

I think I've counted about 10 people in/around the JAX area that I know of that hang, and I'm sure there are more.
The weather is FINALLY getting nice enough to actually do something outside.

    So... Let's go!

Details - (err... How's about just some ideas?)
    * Weekend long (Friday, Saturday night, unless we can tie it in to some sort of holiday weekend/day deal (New Years?)
    * Local campsite (Goldhead SP, Cary SF, etc.)
    * Hammock (or tents - aka bring the family???)

My goal would be to find a place close enough to everyone that no one person has to drive an extra long distance, but far enough away that we can relax, but close enough that if you had to go home to check on the kids you could.
I'd love it if we could get folks who are on the fence about hammocking, let 'em bring their tents, and then we can show 'em 'tha way'...
I also would want it to be family friendly 'enough' that if you wanted to bring the kids, you could (so long as everyone was cool with that idea - if possible)

so I guess this is where we start the planning -

Post your ideas for dates, places (and resiliency to kids )

All distances are from the I-10/I-95 interchange, all times are estimates

    Park: Distance: Time:
    Cary SF. - 21.7 - 29
    BCR CA. - 30.3 - 41
    Jennings SF - 26.7 - 34
    Gold Head SP - 45.9 - 63
    Princess place - 59.2. - 69

If you know any other places that should be on this list copy/paste it and add to it

This is a great idea!! I'm down with either, adults only or family style. I'd be cool to have a small hike attatched. My family is expecting a baby in the second half of January, so as we get closer to that I will need to stay closer to home.

I think there has been a hang somewhere in middleburg?

    Gold head sounds cool too.

    Lets do this!!!

A couple of them. The Black Creek Ravines WMA is a wonderfully beautiful place. There're both a group campsite (this one requires a reservation through the SJWM website) right by the parking area and a wilderness campsite (this one doesn't require a reservation) about two miles in by the creek proper. The wilderness campsite has room for ~5-10 folks, as long as they don't mind hanging among palmetto (~3-4 if they do).

I highly recommend the area; the trail is beautifully maintained and wanders for ~7 miles of marked trail (and probably another 2 or so of unmarked stuff) that winds up and downhill as much as Florida ever gets (~50 ft. of elevation change).

If you're going to do one there, I'd certainly be interested!

Awesome. Definitely interested. Black Creek is awesome but so is Gold Head.

Rumpshaker I'm in the same boat. I'm basically booked till early January but I'll try to keep up to date on this thread in case I'm free.

As for places to go the Ravines is a great place to go. I've been there several times. Most of the other places that come to mind will still be open for hunting at that time so I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.

Great idea Rat. The only issue I see with Gold Head is that there currently aren't any hammock-friendly sites designated. The new park manager is on board, though, and if there's enough interest I can see if he'd allow it. Unfortunately we haven't been able to get together yet to go through the park to find "legal" places to hang.
