Smile homemade sock for ENO Doublenest

This is no big deal compared to all the other cool hammock accessories posted on this forum. But, I'm delighted to have an accessory to make the ENO Doublenest warmer. The Doublenest's material is strong but thin. Cool breezes blow right through it. At first I wanted just an undercover. Then I remembered I have an old DIY hammock made from JustJeff's directions that I no longer use. The nylon was good for salvage.

First, I put a 102" non-structural ridgeline on the Doublenest with the ends tied to where fabric meets the rope as advised on the forum. Then I threw the 120" x 60" piece of nylon diagonally over the ridgeline and sewed the ends around. After that, I cut a piece off a dangling corner about 1'x1' and sewed it around the bottom to hold the sock down.

Finally, I sewed an edge up into a pointy pocket which hangs from the bottom.

I had to readjust and mess with the sock at each step to get it to fit. It's a little tight when someone is in the hammock but that may be a good thing so it doesn't flap around in wind. It has not been used outdoors yet. Condensation may be a problem on a dewy morning (?). It pairs well with the Speer SPE and weighs just 9 oz. Not bad for an item that may add 10 degrees of warmth. It was also good to put the new entry-level sewing machine to use.

Looks great! I like the pocket. Good idea.

My hammock sock is what got me below zero with just a potomac underquilt this year. Definately worth their weight.

Excellent work, cool deal! I have a very nice hammock sock that NCP sewed for me to go over my ENO DoubleNest. I can't wait to put it to use at the Winter Hang!
