    Smile UQ?

I use a Arctic mummy bag when camping on the ground or on a army cot . My question is will I still need uq in the hammock even I stayed warm in the sleeping while hunting elk in Colorado?

Yep....I'd at least bring a pad along to put under you in the hammock. But maybe try and see if it works for you with just the bag alone. Depends on the temperature outside I reckon. Only way to really know.

This is definitely the best way to go. Nothing like trying out gear with an easy bail-out plan prior to taking it out on a trip. The great thing about hammocks is that testing gear in the backyard is actually enjoyable (as opposed to ground-dwelling days when every night away from my bed was no fun at all).

Question...do you use a pad under your sleeping bag in your cot?

The cot...if it's like most I've slept in...has a stretched nylon 'bed', and will behave very much like a hammock would underneath you.

If you don't use a pad in the cot...you might be able to get away without one in the hammock. If you use one in the cot, you'll want one (or a UQ) under you in the hammock too.

absolutely, I recently did just that. There are many threads describing various methods. It depends on how much modification you are willing to do although it's possible to rig it up with no modifications at all.

Here's what I did, not a lot of pics but the process is actually pretty dang easy.

    nom@d did something very similar

Wildman posted a thread about how he went about it

Brains didn't modify his bag at all, just set up some suspension on the corners and went with it that way

that's just a couple examples, if you search through the DIY section you can find many more. Of course some methods will work better than others, but read through some of the threads and take the leap. And don't be afraid to ask questions that you feel are dreadfully obvious. The members here are happy to chime in and there's a great amount of collective wisdom on this forum.
