Carvers should be 39/28 but even better for you Mr.Dark is no rain that day....I'd take that with a huge grain of salt at Carvers.
Dont remember the gain from Carvers up Round Bald even though I was there last week (lots and lots of ice on the trail, I did wear traction aids) so it will be a bit cooler on your first climb.
    Then its all downhill! HA!
You know that overall it is downhill to 19E from Carvers but you'll still gain probably 5 or 6000 feet--just a vague guess of a remembrance of those hard numbers.
I'm jealous, we're schedule to out again next weekend and I had enough rain hiking last week in it.

So ya think this weekend there will be snow and ice still lingering around up there?

Thanks MM, thats pretty much what I was figuring, but always good to have confirmation. I'll bring my microspikes, but leave the snowshoes and pulk at home (thank God!)

If you're asking about the roads, it's still too early to tell.

If you're asking about the trails, I'd be surprised if there was no snow or ice.
Just got back yesterday from a Smokeys trips, and 2500-3500 was slushy mud, above that was just snow and/or ice.

That is an awesome picture! I really wish things would have worked out for us to make it in those conditions ! Everyone in the group is not prepared for anything too epic!

Yeah we will have to replan this hike for warmer conditions ! As for my group we are pretty well fixed one using the backup hike ! A few more have jumped in for this area that are not on the Forrum , the location was more suitable for there comfort zone! I really look forward to hiking that section in Roan with everyone !

So the road up to Carvers is slushy/icy, but still open, right? Also, anyone have any recent intel on depth of snow heading from Carvers to 19E? Thanks guys, it should be a fun outing - I'll post pics if I survive

    Open?

Was last Thursday when I was there and the weather has not been that bad since. The road to Carvers is maintained by the state, so even if a big storm hits they usually get it cleared in 1-2 days....bit of advice on the dude and the snowplow, behind him is ok but I wouldn't want to be i front of him.
