I'm not a big fan of continuous loops, especially small ones. If I want something longer, I use a locked brummel on both ends. If I want something shorter, I use soft shackles/nacrabiners--they are rock-solid, can be opened, and you can make them in Amsteel down to a couple inches in diameter. At larger diameters (six to eight inches) you can tie a larksfoot or prussic.

I've been dumped by loops that untied (pulled through) a double fisherman's knot in Amsteel. If I were in a hurry and had to do it again I'd have more backing knots. Not cool.

I assume you mean a fixed eye on both ends constructed with locked brummels.

I've never had that problem. When using a slick rope like amsteel, the double fisherman's knot needs to be loaded and "set" before first use and the tags ends should be left long to allow for a bit of creep.

    I bury the tag ends.

Nope I did it last night. I was surprised...took.a fishin wire but I got it dressed up well.

As far as the tarp. My HG4S is actually 128" of actaul tarp plus 2" of d ring and grisgrain attachment points. A quick hang in the rain at night leave very little room for error. I was wanting more of a gauruntee.

    128" Tarp
    - 11" cont loops

    =117"
    -110.5" ridgeline
    =3.5" per side..

whoopie hook is about 1/2" so....3 inches of clear coverage.....just was trying squeeze 2 more inches :-)

Not if you run it through the channel more than once.
