Comfort trumps weight in low temps IMO. In winter, I believe you always need to plan for the worst. If the weather turns on you, you'll be thankful you brought it plus, the benefits of hammock camping are a good night's sleep out in the woods. Why go out and only just get by when you can be comfy and cozy?

Winter is no time to be a gram weeny. Carry the quilts on your back or pull behind in a pulk either way if you go out take them. If you don't want to take them then stay home and stay safe. The only other option is to *gulp* go to ground with a pad and sleeping bag.

Take it. Or you will suffer. Trust me its no to freeze your butt off and at those temps hypothermia is a very real possibility.

I made an UQ from a 25 degree mummy bag. Last weekend I tested it and the coldest it got was 32, wouldn't go lower than 30 with it. I would take the UQ for your comfort and for safety, you will need something to protect you.

Take the pad and the UQ. That way you can judge which one is best or use both if needed.
