    Superfly vs Kelly Noah 12

    Hello all

I'm looking at the wb superfly vs the Noah tarp. Wondering if I could get opinions. Tarp mostly for 3 season use. It's mainly for use on a motorcycle so size matters but weight a little less.

    Thanks

I'd say if weight didn't matter and you wanted to save some cash, go with the Kelty. If you ever plan to do any backpacking, get the superflly.

I don't have a Superfly, I do think it's a great tarp. Since your not backpacking with it, the kelty will work, and it cost less. I do have a Kelty 9 and think it's a great tarp, just not very light weight. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

I have the Noah 12. It's not very big when packed. Probably about the size of a gatoraid. It's my big tarp. Last summer I used an 8x8 on a road trip to Zion. 5-6 days on the Sportster. Great trip. Capital Reef a ranger told me no hammocks & refused to give me a refund. I don't think she liked bikers.

I motorcycle camp & weight isn't the issue, space is. So the Superfly will be more packable.

The cost difference is worth it, in my opinion. The Kelty's are good tarps, but the Superfly is a great one. Warbonnet has a sale right now, which makes them a bit closer. The Superfly will be smaller and more packable.

I am amazed at the packability of the superfly. Wife has one, and I am impressed with this tarp. Has taken 60 mph gusts full on and she slept right through it, not to mention the lightning and thunder. (Amazes me)

When I set it up for her I am always a bit envious.

    Really helpful guys thanks!!

Hard decision warbonnet has the sale but I also live in Canada so I'm getting hit with customs charges. That's what hurts the most. That being said I'm leaning towards superfly for space cause ill have to take some sort of ground tarp too for when I travel in the prairies and need to go to ground.

Also all this hammock talk is making me think of overnight hiking but I never have before.

Looking at 80 plus 15% tax for kelty or warbonnets sale at 110 the dollar is about the same... Looking like its worth the extra $$$ but if it wasn't for the sale I would be back to kelty for cost. I'm a sucker for a sale.

Any other opinions before I pull the plug and order the superfly?

Nope, just order the Superfly. I had the Kelty and while a great tarp, it is totally worth the few extra $$ to have the Superfly and save a few ounces. It packs smaller too.

I should mention that the Kelty is not waterproof. I asked Kelty specifically and their rep told me that if you are expecting rain "it would be better to get a tent."

You'll have to do some conditioning and seam sealing to make the Kelty viable in heavy, regular downpours. I think the same is true of the ever popular Guide Gear tarps (I have one), which tends to leak after long exposure.
