Just thought I'd ask...does anybody want some fresh cut bamboo to DIY your own trekking poles? Its free...lol...I can toss a few pieces in the back of the van and at the end of the trip ill pass em out..Or I can just mount them on top of the van and yall snag em up as your coming and going.

Then there's the irrational component. I just got a 16 jewel altimeter. It's a step up from my Peet Bros. Model 80 that I've used for years. The new one weighs 3 oz.; the old weighs 1.5 oz. Which will I bring? Both. Which do I need for this hike? Neither. (I will also have map and compass + GPS. My reasoning is that I'm learning how to use these tools, and if I don't practice, I won't have the skills I need when I need them.) There's always a trade-off like this. HYOH.
    Dave,

I've been trying to make a small UL saw, and my attempts have been rather feeble. I would really like to check out your UL saw's, particularly the 1.5oz one.

Ive seen a few DIY and UL saws, I think the best Ive seen is an UL Bone saw for elk that was compact and light enough yet could still take care of up to 3" limbs with a little work.

I have a WatchFire hand axe that is on my pack along with a T2 Tracker with a saw back.

Sorry everyone, but there has been a change in plans for me, I have a family issue going on and I will not be able to make this event.

Have fun and take pictures for me!

    White Rocks Hike

    Cranky Bear,

Sorry to hear you will not make it. Life has a way of getting in the way of our plans.

Almost ready to go, I loaded my pack an weighted it tonight. 34 lbs all up not including water. I might add a ccf pad to go between my hammock and my diy UQ. I'm a little afraid of CBS on Fri. night (which according to the forecast will be the coldest night). I might throw in some sandals for the water crossings?

The forecast looks good for maybe no rain Fri. afternoon through Sun. let's hope.

    See y'all Fri.
