Another vote for a balaclava. I have one in "turtle fur" that is very soft and light and warm.

    Baldness can be a blessing

I'm all for shaving the head. Not only does it solve this problem, but you will find out that a bottle of shampoo will last a year (coming from a guy who has been bald since 21).

Gimmie all your hair,,don't mind how it ends up if I had hair on top my bald head,,would love the buffer especially when I bump into something with my head..and cause bald,,have to wear buff, baklava, or black rock or buff and combo of or smartwoolie..lol..heads do get cold,,and who cares what little hair I have left on sides looks like,,most times after wearing buff its sticking out in all directions..and wife is laughing at me.

While for you guys with short hair this isn't a problem, my long hair seem to think it needs to follow the way of the hat and the more I need to adjust my hat, the farther forward my hair goes. Does anyone out there in hammock land have a solution for this? My hair in the morning looks like cousin it!
    Down jacket.

I sleep with part of it under my head and the rest pulled over top, similar to the draft cover on a sleeping bag. Works for me when I don't want to wear a hat.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Try a turban, heck it keeps your head warm, your hair under control and also functions as a pillow.

The ninjaclava seems to have solved the problem! I think it may have to become a permanent cold weather gear item.
Better not wear that during black bear season... :-)
