Thanks for the pics. I was wondering how they would work.

these look like they will have some weight to them. Any idea how much?

I wish I had a small scale so I could weigh them. I will say they're definitely not the answer for someone concerned with things being as light as they can be. I just happened to run across them at Academy, thought they'd be perfect for the hammock in my backyard, and were cheap.
I picked up a couple of rifle socks at Gander Mtn. on the sale rack a couple of months ago and never opened them. I just finished a DIY Speer-type hammock and decided to try this approach for skins. Perfect length & fit, and took all of 10 minutes to rip the seams and fit. Now I only have to make skins for my tarp. Thanks for the idea.

Which end of the sock goes where.
where did the pictures go?
I own and use the gun socks for my rifles. My opinion is that they are too heavy for regular use with a hammock - IF you backpack. The socks aren't terribly heavy, but compared to using noseeum netting or light ripstop the difference in weight is noticeable.
I must have deleted those pictures from my Photobucket account.
As TroutEhCuss said, they were WAY too heavy. It was a neat experiment at the time.
I'd have to agree on the weight issue: I'd use some homemade sock before I'd go for a rifle sock. They aren't that hard to make (this from a guy who can't figure out how to turn on one of Her Ladyship's machines!).
